Armed
with brollies and raincoats, Christians from all over Sutton,
Cheam and Carshalton took to the streets on Good Friday to celebrate
Easter.
"It's
a blessing" said one very wet looking marcher, "God
sends the rain as well as the sunshine", and rain it
did. Despite appauling conditions, local Christians took to the
streets determined to bear witness to their faith and celebrate
the sacrifice of Jesus Christ over 2000 years ago.
Certainly
in Sutton, nothing seemed to dampen their spirits, as onlookers
watched in almost disbelief as young and old walked from one end
of Sutton High Street to the other in quiet procession behind
a large wooden cross.
One passer-by
was heard to say to her friend "That's what Easter is
all about".
This is one
the increasingly common occasions locally, when churches abandon
the comfort of their pews and meet up with others from different
denominations and different parts of town to worship together
in unity.
